Karolina Słup received her BA in American studies from Jagiellonian University in Kraków, where she is currently enrolled in an MA program for Latin American studies and film studies.

Her main interests are film, art (especially photography) and American history. She loves travelling and getting to know other cultures. Also, Słup often visits galleries and exhibitions, and tries to improve her photography skills, preferably with analogue cameras. She also enjoys snowboarding and dancing—recently ballet. In the nearest future, Słup plans on flying to the United States and studying there for one semester. Moreover, she wants to broaden her knowledge about art, in order to fulfill her dream to work in a museum. In fall 2011, she attended a study tour on “African Americans in the US South: Traditions and Contemporary Challenges” to South Carolina and Louisiana. During this trip the photograph that is published in this issue has been taken.
